Here is an idea that would be perfect for a whimsical outdoor baby shower; a storybook theme! Touches of fairy tale fantasy will make this theme magical yet classic. Guests can bring their favorite childhood book as a gift for the mom-to-be to add to the baby’s library.

We are having a book themed baby shower for my sister, in which guests are asked to bring a book in lieu of a card.

Some concern is being brought up by guests; they are wondering how to control the books people bring so that my sister doesn’t get 5 copies of the same book. We didn’t want to provide people with a list of books because we asked people to bring a book that is meaningful to them … what is your suggestion as to how to manage this?

    Hi Michelle,

We recommend encouraging the guests to keep in touch! As a host, you can help spread the word about what books the other guests are bringing. Plus, if you get duplicates, you can always give them to friends or donate them to charity!

As a first time mother-to-be, my family threw us a book themed shower. Two years later I still love going through all the books that people chose for my son. We read bedtime stories each night from our collection and the special book plates remind us of the loved ones that chose that book. We received very few duplicates and with a very active toddler the duplicates have been welcomed- we leave a few at Grandma’s and a few with the babysitter.
