It’s that time of year again!
The stores are filling up with cobwebs, costumes and creepy crawly Halloween decorations and we’re breaking out our new line of Halloween greeting cards, Halloween kids cards and Halloween party invitations to get in the spirit.
Are you ready to transform your home into a haunted mansion? To help you get started, we’ve collected a few of our favorite easy DIY Halloween decor ideas together below. Enjoy!
Idea #1: DIY Halloween Luminaries
This fun craft was inspired by our Scary Bags Halloween party invitation. It’s super easy to recreate, and they can be used as luminaries, gift bags or kid-friendly decor.
- Colored bags
- Black markers
- Tea lights, candy, party favors and/or our imagination!
Step One: Prep the Bags
We could only find bags with handles, so we had to cut them off to create the effect we wanted.
Step Two: Draw Scary Faces, Fill the Bags and Enjoy!
See? It’s super simple. While drawing the faces, we tried to match the look of the original invitation, but if you let your imagination run wild we’re sure you could come up with some creative ideas of your own!
Idea #2: Spooky Silhouettes
This idea was inspired by our Vintage Bats Halloween party invitations, but we think it would look great if you paired the bats with screeching cat silhouettes, jack-o-lanterns, witches and other things that go bump in the night…
- Black construction paper
- Templates featuring spooky shapes
How to Do It:
We printed out bat templates, but you can probably find whatever you’re looking for with a simple online search. If all else fails, you can always draw the shapes by hand or use clip art as a guide. Remember—it’s easier to cut them out symmetrically if you fold them in half first.
Idea #3: Homemade Gravestones
Quickly transform your front yard into a spooky cemetery with this creative craft inspired by our Ill Will Halloween greeting card. The best part is brainstorming creative names for the headstones!
- Black or gray foam board
- Wooden stakes
- A little creativity
Step One: Sketch and Cut Out the Gravestones
We drew the shapes by hand to add quirky charm to the final look.
Step Two: Write Fun Messages
We’re all writers, so this part was definitely the most fun for us!
Step Three: Attach Stakes and Enjoy!
As a final step, tape the wooden rods or stakes to the back and set them up around your yard to create your very own cheeky cemetery.
