Halloween is right around the corner, and I don’t have a costume yet. That’s why I love this idea we dreamed up for an easy last-minute “Three Blind Mice” DIY Halloween costume. Just gather together some felt, fabric glue, a headband, sunglasses and two friends and you’ll be all set for a spooktacular Halloween celebration!

Supplies

  • Gray felt
  • Plastic headband
  • Scissors
  • Fabric glue
  • Dark sunglasses

Step One: Cut Out Ears

Fold the fabric in half and cut out the ears without cutting the connecting fabric between the two sides. Remember that cat and wolf ears are longer and pointy (and you could easily use this same technique to make those costumes as well), but mouse ears are more rounded.

When you are finished cutting, lay your fabric flat. The flattened ears should look like two figure-eight shapes.

Step Two: Fold Ears Over Headband

To create ears that stand up, simply fold the cutout shapes around the headband.

Step Three: Glue Ears Together

Use your no-sew fabric glue to adhere the two sides of the ears together. If you keep the glue exclusively on the felt, you can even save the headband for other projects—just slide the ears off!

Step Four: Finish Costume

Top off your mouse ears with dark sunglasses and a gray sweatshirt, get two friends to do the same and voila! You’re three blind mice. If you have a fourth friend in need of a costume, you could even assign someone to be the butcher’s wife…
