I usually always have a theme in mind when I get down to ordering and sending invitations for a party. However, when ordering invitations for my son’s second birthday party, I had no idea what theme I wanted! I let the invitations help dictate my theme and I am so glad I did!
I fell in love with the color scheme and cute design of the Perfect Party Hat invitations. I wanted to somehow incorporate handmade party hats with some other elements to make a party that several children and their parents could enjoy. One day when walking by a Hat Shop in town I suddenly came up with my son’s birthday party theme and found a perfect way to incorporate the fun party hats, my Tiny Prints gift tags, and the color scheme from the invites.
I created several different town businesses out of cardboard boxes to come together to create the town of “Twosville.” A large poster that read “Welcome to Twosville: Population 1, Established August 2013” greeted guests at the arrived at the town.
The town consisted of a bakery, fast food restaurant, tattoo parlor, DMV, hat shop, ice cream truck, and cafe. I had ideas for so many more little town businesses, but ran out of crafting time! All of the cardboard houses were created with items I already had on hand at home including cardboard, paint, tape, glue, staples, and paper. The rest of the party decorations were handmade, printables, or toys from my son’s collection.
The town of Twosville served as decoration, activities, and refreshment displays. Guests played in a kitchen area at the Twosville Fast Food Restaurant and snacked on veggie fries displayed in French Fry containers. The bakery housed the cupcakes for the party. The cafe housed coffee cups filled with juice or water for the kiddos to drink. Kids used crayons to decorate their own Twosville Citizen Identification cards at the DMV. They pasted on temporary tattoos at the Tattoo Parlor and took turns looking out of the windows of the Twosville Hat Shop.
