Like so many other college graduates, all I wanted to do the summer after I earned my diploma was get on an airplane. I wanted to experience something other than the comfortable routine of my past four years. I wanted to listen to another language, eat delicious new foods and photograph everything unfamiliar. Thankfully my parents thought it was a good idea too. Hence, the greatest graduation gift of all time: travel.

If you’ve traveled outside the country you can hopefully agree that there’s something thrilling and mysterious about discovering a culture so unlike your own—especially when you’re young. So if you’re looking for the ultimate gift for an accomplished grad, consider helping them plan an unforgettable trip. Whether they go around the world for three months or spend a couple weeks a little closer to home, the gift of travel promises to leave a lasting impression.

For some fun post graduation trip ideas, check out this guide from Frommer’s.

Did you do any traveling after your graduation? We’d love to hear your story!

Actually, I did my travels before graduation. My high school band went on a week-long trip to Tennessee about 3 weeks before graduation. We were there to compete in a competition as well as get some much needed rest & relaxation away from home.

That sounds so fun, Nicole. In high school, I also traveled right before graduation on a school trip—it was unforgettable! I hope your band did well at competition!
