When I was a kid, my mom wouldn’t let my sister and I wear bikinis until we were 12 years old. As a result, it always shocked me when I saw little girls sporting bikinis before they were even out of diapers!

The modern bikini might not be considered as sassy as it used to be, but do you think it’s appropriate for children? These little swimsuits require parents to weigh fashion against other pressing concerns, like sun protection, movement and concerns about skin exposure in general.

Are you a baby bikini fan? Why or why not? At what age do you think it’s appropriate for little girls to wear bikinis? You tell us!

  1. I think little ones in bikinis are adorable! We live in Arizona, so my 2-year old has quite a few! :) Her little chubby belly sticking out is cute! Too bad it’s not cute to have a big belly when your 30 ;)

I think they’re fine on little girls. My infant daughter wears one. My concern is less about appropriate or not and more about sun exposure. The smaller the suit, the more sunscreen I need to apply increasing the likelihood I’m going to miss a spot and she’s going to get toasty.

So for that reason I prefer the one piece.

Here is the thing I think they can be cute on little, little ones and I don’t mind them on young girls as long as they are age appropriate and fit properly.

I think they ONLY look good on babies. Adults shouldn’t be allowed to show that much skin.

For sun protection I like the swim shirts for the kids and they make swin shorts for girls too. Once pieces are good too.

I have been seeing too many ill fitting bikinis at the playground lately. I think more coverage will save many a busy mom or dad from a opps! that suit was for next year! or how did she get that suit it was from last year! or I was saving that for her younger sister how did she find that?
