When I was in the sixth grade, my local school district implemented uniforms for all students from kindergarten through middle school.
I hated it. Passionately.
I took to wearing purple tennis shoes and bright orange socks to give my navy blue jumpers a little more flair, but eventually the school banned those items as well.
School administrators argue that uniforms in public schools help kids to stay focused on academic matters, relieve peer pressure, mask socio-economic differences within the student population and help to weed out gang activity on campus.
As an adult, I think little ones look adorable in their uniforms (like these from French Toast!), and I sometimes wish someone would give ME an office uniform to make getting ready in the morning a little easier. What do you think? Are uniforms appropriate in public schools? Do they help the student population, or stunt their creative expression? Do your kids wear uniforms? How do they feel about it? You tell us!
