Between two parents who work and two kids who go to daycare and are hungry the instant we burst through the doors at 6pm, family dinner is something that we manage to pull off about two or three times a week. On those days we all get home at the same time, throw together a home made pizza, a plate of spaghetti or something equally easy and child friendly. One child handles bringing plates to the table, another brings the glasses. My husband and I dance around getting everything else together and then we all sit around our little kitchen table.
“These are my favorite dinners.” My four-year-old daughter said on Monday evening.
“What? Chicken nuggets and rice?” I asked, somewhat skeptically. The nuggets are good, but not that good.
“No, the nights we all eat together.” She answered with a contented smile.
It’s not easy to make all the pieces fall into place, but I have a hunch I’ll be making a concerted effort to make it happen more and more often.
