Tips for Creating a Fabulous Dessert Table and a Memorable Party
First, select a theme and/or color palette that inspires you, and design your dessert table concept around it. Don’t be afraid to incorporate fun color combinations and unexpected patterns.
Next, design a beautiful backdrop for your dessert table keeping your chosen theme and colors in mind. A backdrop can be created from many things including fabric, wrapping paper, wall paper, printed materials and even naturally occurring things like trees and foliage. Create a custom look to your backdrop through the addition of buntings, banners, framed photos or prints. Choose an element that will convey your theme and serve as a focal point.
Choose table linens such as cloths and runners that reflect the style of your theme and coordinate with your color scheme.
Design a menu of lovely treats that coordinate with your theme and colors. Consider popular dessert table items like: color coordinated candy, cake, cookies, cupcakes, cake pops and macaroons. Many of these items can be purchased inexpensively from your local grocery store bakery and dressed up with printable or fondant toppers and displayed in dessert cups or cupcake wrappers. Choose one or two desserts to order from a gourmet baker who can match your event theme and colors perfectly.
After your menu is finalized, concentrate on the design and layout of your table being sure to incorporate height into your plans using varying display pieces like apothecary jars, cake stands, risers, candles, vases or hat boxes.
Don’t forget to include fun favor bags or boxes for guests to fill as a take-home treat. Dress these up with a sticker or printable tag or label to match your theme.
Finish off the look by creating a tag word or phrase on your table to reflect your theme using ceramic letter and number candy dishes from the Hoopla Events Etsy Shop.
Tips for Making Your Party Memorable
In addition to creating a fabulous dessert table, here are a few additional suggestions for making your party memorable!
First, make sure the guest list includes all of the important people in the guest of honor’s life. Make the list and check it twice.
Second, choose a theme that reflects the guest of honor’s passions, likes or interests. Once chosen, keep the theme focused and add little décor touches to customize the theme.
Add that custom look to your party by dressing up place settings with chargers and a fun favor. Perhaps even add a little touch of dessert by each plate, such as a small cupcake displayed beautifully on a small dessert pedestal.
Take the creative desserts to a whole new level by incorporating the guest of honor’s name or things they love. For example, if your guest of honor’s name is Jessica and she loves shoes, have cookies made in the shape of a “J” or high heels. You can accomplish this by using printable cupcake toppers or a custom cake topper too! For our party, the “40” topper was a way to honor our guest of honor’s new age! We also used her favorite colors on the cake!
Favors are always a fun part of the party! Select gifts that the guest of honor would love! Cute favor boxes filled with a little gift like cookies or chocolates work perfectly. Tie them up with a favor tag and neatly arrange them on a favor table or as part of your dining table place settings.
Music is a powerful tool for creating memories! If you will be playing music at the party, take some time to put together a playlist which includes selections that reflect the musical taste of the guest of honor. Chances are, there are some fun stories and dance moves tied to some favorite songs!
Finally, if your budget allows, hire a photographer! There’s no better way to capture the memories from a special occasion quite like photographs. So that no important shots are missed, be sure to make a list of “must take” shots. Include moments you want captured as well as specific people your guest of honor will want a photo of as a remembrance.
