In our party planning research, we occasionally come across certain rumors that send us into a spin. You Tell Us: American Girl Dolls

Friday, May 1st, 2009

As a child, I remember reading the American Girl books, performing their one act plays and wanting a doll so badly that I was overcome with jealousy whenever my friends brought their dolls around. I thought it was such a cool concept—design a doll to look just like you! Then you could accessorize, buy her furniture and build her a happy little life.

As an adult, I realize what a pricey proposition that happy little life can be for parents. A book alone sells for $10.95, but a doll is upwards of $100. Add clothing, accessories and all of the other doll amenities, and parents are looking at quite the playtime investment.

What do you think? Do your children have American Girl books, dolls or accessories? If not, is the price too steep, or are your kids simply uninterested? You tell us!
