Fun Finds Friday: October Turns Pink

Friday, October 10th, 2008

Feel good about your purchases this month with these fun finds!

As you may already know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It’s a great time to purchase gorgeous products in pink to help support the cause.

KitchenAid is known for their mixers and this one in pink, from Amazon.com, is twice as nice. For every purchase, $50 is donated to Komen Foundation.

This super glossy lip shine with SPF 15 is unbelievably priced at $1. Buy it in Pink Kiss during October and elf, known for their inexpensive and cool beauty products, will donate 100% of the proceeds to the Breast Cancer Research Fund.

How fun would it be to have a pink TV? This one from Favi Entertainment comes with a DVD, is pretty in pink and helps the breast cancer awareness program.

Ever wanted to test drive a BMW? It may seem like a dream come true, but during BMW’s Ultimate Drive, the company will donate $1 for every mile you test drive to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Have fun shopping in pink this month!

Fun Finds: The Fun & Unusual

Friday, September 12th, 2008

Fridays are for fun times dreaming about the weekend! So let’s get you started with these unusual finds on the Internet.

1. These colorful and unusually shaped products are called, “Whizz Kid Weeblock” and are from Bel Bambini. Can you figure out what they’re for? Yes, if you have a baby boy these washable cups keep you from getting wet during diaper changing.

2. This looks like your ordinary coffee paper cup so you’ll do a double take when you find out it’s “Not a Paper Cup.” From Paper Source, it is a porcelain cup that’ll let you grab your nonfat decaf coffee without wasting cup after cup.

3. This will keep you entertained throughout the day. Another funny find from Paper Source, it’s a magnetic tape dispenser that keeps your business cards, pencils and paper clips all together.

4. Imagine brushing with flavors like Bitter Chocolate, Lemon Tea or Cola? How about using a Sweet Potato or Blueberry mouthwash? Made in Japan, these breath palettes are an unusual combination of sweet flavors with toothpaste and mouthwash.

Leashing Your Kids?

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Keeping your kids together when you go out may seem like a nightmare-imagine big crowds and little kids. Kate Gosselin from Jon and Kate Plus 8 used special rings (Lakeshore Learning) to get her kids together during 4th of July and some moms are now using leashes (Amazon.com)and velcroed straps (Perfectlysafe.com) made just for kids. Some teachers use the walking rings them to keep their students together during field trips. Check out “Safety Craft for Teachers” for information on how you can make your own.

Chic Mom Style

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

I’ve always admired how superstar moms like Sarah Jessica Parker and Reese Witherspoon always look so glamorous and put together. I think the key to their chic style is in their attitude–they dress appropriately, forsaking low slung jeans and halter tops for more family-friendly tailored trousers and fitted blouses, but they also add a lot of personal style and flair into their wardrobes as well. Even if you aren’t in the spotlight quite so much as these famous moms, borrowing a little bit of their glitz and glam for your everyday wardrobe is easier than you think! Check out these inspirational images of SJP, Reese and Michelle Williams from Celebrity Moms, and then steal their looks with these easy fashion tips for fall:

To get SJP’s casual look, try pairing J.Crew’s boy cut jeans with this cozy belted sweater hoodie from the Gap.

Steal Reese Witherspoon’s classic style with this sleek racerback black dress and fun, funky pumps, both from Banana Republic.

Michelle Williams’ classic style can easily be emulated with slim-fitting cropped pants and a pair of flats in a fun color or standout print. Try these “Portland” Pants from Nordstrom and these Cuteone flats from Nine West.

Adorable Gift Baskets

Friday, August 29th, 2008

A gift basket is a thoughtful and easy way to give a birthday or shower gift. The only downside? Gift baskets can cost a lot, running up to $200 a pop! But, there are some great ones out there that are much more affordable as well. Here are a few that I love, including one for baby and one for the new mom:

The Little Seed is a celebrity haven for eco-friendly baby and children’s specialty boutique items. It was started by Soleil Moon Frye and Paige Goldberg Tolmach. Here is their cute (if a bit pricey at $200!) Little Toddler Gift Basket.

This Basket of Wisdom by Martha Stewart has everything the new mom will need such as a thermometer, booties, and tea and candy for her.

Mom’s Coffee Break

Friday, July 18th, 2008

If you are a mom, then you probably need a break!  That’s why I think the Mom’s Coffee Break section on FamilyEducation.com is a great idea.  This site offers puzzles, games, comics and stories to allow you to “stop” thinking about your to-do list for just few a minutes while you relax with a warm cup of coffee (or any other beverage of choice).
