Pregnancy Trends: Push Presents

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Having a baby is a wonderful, blessed experience, but that’s not to say it doesn’t come with its fair share of aches and pains.  And to think–while you’ve given up wine, sushi, and most of our wardrobe, your husband enjoys a beer and only has to deal with quelling your occasional mood swings before the baby is born.

As a result of this imbalance between responsibilities, the concept of “push presents” has grown in popularity in recent years.  Push presents are exactly what they sound like–gifts a new father gives to a new mother when she gives birth to their baby.  Many jewelry companies have begun to capitalize on the growth of this trend, with places like Tiffany & Co. introducing Celebration Rings for new moms.  Gifts.com has an entire gift guide dedicated to push presents.  Even celebrities are embracing the trend with mommy necklances from sites like Swank.

So what do you think?  Will you be hoping to receive a Push Present with the birth of your baby?  Do you think your husband even knows about this growing trend?  Is this trend tacky or terrific?

You Tell Us: Pregnancy Peer Pressure

Friday, February 27th, 2009

A close friend of mine is coming up on the five year anniversary of her wedding, and each day that brings her nearer to that point brings growing speculation about when she will get pregnant.

Her family members want little babies running around, and they aren’t afraid to let her know.

There have even been rumors so far-reaching that they required public proclamations to the contrary on her Facebook page!

Have you ever experienced this kind of pregnancy peer pressure? How did you handle it? Do you think it comes out of a loving desire to expand your family, or does it make you uncomfortable? Did it stop after your first child? You tell us!

Friday, January 16th, 2009

According to BabyCenter, more and more couples are taking a romantic vacation together in the hopes of conceiving a child. They have named it a “conceptionmoon,” and state that most conceptionmooners are in their thirties, have been trying to get pregnant for about eight months and are super busy with family and work-related responsibilities.

Many experts agree that stress can prevent you from getting pregnant, and a mini-vacation can be a great way to relax together. So would you ever consider a conceptionmoon? Where would you go? Could you completely unplug yourself from your iPhone and email? Do you think a conceptionmoon is a great idea for couples who want to conceive, or does it feel like overkill? You tell us!
