Get to Work on Your Labor Day Celebration!

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Celebrated on the first Monday in September, Labor Day was originally dedicated to the social and economic achievements of the American workforce. Today, it serves as an unofficial end to summer, an extra chance to sleep in and a fabulous excuse for a party!

Here are a few ideas to help with your celebration inspiration:

The Labor Day Barbecue

As classic as gingham tablecloths at a picnic, the Labor Day cookout is a timeless celebration that you can easily turn into an annual affair. Make it a potluck, or prep your kebabs and meat marinades in advance to give yourself plenty of time to mingle instead of being cooped up in the kitchen all day.

You Tell Us: Kids and Baby Bikinis

Friday, July 17th, 2009

When I was a kid, my mom wouldn’t let my sister and I wear bikinis until we were 12 years old. As a result, it always shocked me when I saw little girls sporting bikinis before they were even out of diapers!

The modern bikini might not be considered as sassy as it used to be, but do you think it’s appropriate for children? These little swimsuits require parents to weigh fashion against other pressing concerns, like sun protection, movement and concerns about skin exposure in general.

Are you a baby bikini fan? Why or why not? At what age do you think it’s appropriate for little girls to wear bikinis? You tell us!

The Perfect Kids’ Playhouse

Monday, July 13th, 2009

When I was little, we lived next door to a family that was so handy, they built their little ones a playhouse that was an exact miniature replica of their home. Every detail was perfect, right down to the pale pink stucco. My sister and I loved spending time in the mini-suburban home, and always begged our parents for a playhouse all our own.

If you are on the market for a backyard retreat for your little ones, here are a few whimsical ideas to get you started. From classic constructions to cool cardboard designs, this collection has something for every type of family!
