It was in the third grade. I straightened out my Umbro soccer shorts, gave my mall bangs a little brush and gathered up the courage to deliver the most important piece of mail I had ever held in my hand—a Valentine’s Day card for my first crush. He was the dreamiest boy in class, but I knew that my card would stand out from the rest because I had made the effort to bedazzle his name in sparkly red and pink plastic jewels.
My crafting skills paid off, because we ended up sitting together at lunch that day (which, like at most elementary schools, is a very big deal). It was a Valentine’s Day for the history books!
We want to hear about your first valentine! How old were you when you had your first crush? Was it love at first sight? Does your child have a special valentine at school? You tell us!
